TrainCLIM software enables a wide range of potential users from school teachers and students to environmentalists and local governments to gain a broader understanding of the real world implications of climate change to local areas and societies. TrainCLIM is a software-supported training package. It consists of a hard-wired (as opposed to an open-framework) software program and supportive manuals, training modules and exercises.
Welcome to TrainCLIM

For the purpose of training simulations, the models and materials are designed around a ‘hands-on' tool based on a fictitious place for learning about climate change, adaptation and vulnerability assessments. It includes an integrated toolbox: a climate and sea level scenario generator, data browser, and extreme event analyser that can facilitate the teaching of a diverse range of concepts and methods. Training modules are designed to expand peoples' thinking through the integration of concepts that have both environmental and developmental ramifications in a climate changed world.

TrainCLIM has been designed for two purposes: firstly it introduces new users to the powerful modeling capacity of CLIMsystems products; and secondly, through the use of a set of hands-on tools, teaches important concepts that are required when assessing vulnerability to climate change and adaptation.

Exercises can be accessed from the CLIMsystems website through the download page that permits the user to work through scenarios of climate change. These exercises allow the user to rapidly gain understanding of the concepts and themes in vulnerability and adaptation assessments.

One need not be an expert in climate science to gain benefits from using TrainCLIM. The extensive on-line help assists people new to the field to quickly grow their knowledge base.

The Halava Islands, a fictitious island nation, is used as the vehicle for driving the concepts of climate change, variability and adaptation. This model has been used extensively, around the world, with great success.

The program also includes tools that can be applied globally such as the climate and sea level scenario generators.

We encourage individuals with an interest in climate change, lecturers involved in the teaching of climate and global environmental change, government departments tasked with understanding and planning for adaptation to climate change, and others to join the TrainCLIM family.
