Adaptation to Climate Change Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects

The objective of climate change adaptation programming is to improve the adaptive capacity and reduce the vulnerability of human populations and the natural and economic systems on which they depend to climate change and its impacts, and therefore contribute to the realization of the Adaptation Goal. In practice, vulnerability reduction and adaptive capacity enhancement activities will seek to minimize the costs and damages associated with climate change, and enable people to exploit in a sustainable manner any development opportunities that climate change may generate.

(UNDP 2007)

Projects seeking to improve adaptive capacity and reduce vulnerability of people and communities, ecosystems and natural environments, and economic systems in the context of climate change represent a new area for monitoring and evaluation. Such projects are transdisciplinary by nature with important elements of climate science intertwined with social, environmental and developmental elements. Given the complexity of these interactive systems new skills are required to effectively monitor and evaluate the burgeoning number of climate change and adaptation development projects around the world.

CLIMsystems and its staff and Associates represent an unparalleled resource for conducting monitoring and evaluation of climate change adaptation projects around the world. An interdisciplinary team can be formed to meet nearly any client need. Our diversity and history of collaborative projects means that when a CLIMsystems M & E team takes on a project it will be completed on time within budget and to a very high standard. We have staff with expertise in climate science, planning and policy, audit and accounting, community development, engineering, agriculture, water supply and a host of other sectoral areas.
