Graham Ashford, Associate

Graham Ashford is a Lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia where he is pursuing his PhD investigating actions to increase sustainable development, economic efficiency and emission reductions outcomes in the Kyoto flexibility mechanisms. Graham is also an Associate with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) where for the last twelve years he has led research projects in its climate change, natural resources management, measurement and assessment, and trade programs. His experience includes designing and implementing sustainable development strategies; leading environmental impact studies; analysing trade, natural resource management and community development policies; designing poverty alleviation and community development strategies; undertaking agriculture and climate change research; building institutional capacity; and organising media outreach and stakeholder communication strategies. He has extensive experience in group training and facilitation including leading a pioneering project with scientists from five Canadian agencies to use participatory methodologies with Inuit to document the impacts of climate change in Canada’s Arctic region and understand emerging adaptive strategies, and providing capacity building training for the UNDP’s National Communication Support Program. Graham has worked with governments, universities, NGOs and community groups on projects in India, Zimbabwe, China, North Korea, United Kingdom, Canada and the Caribbean Countries. He has an MA and BA (honors) in Economics.
